The Associated Students is the primary advocate for students at California State University, Northridge and provides excellent, meaningful programs and services designed to create and enhance a spirited, learning-focused campus environment.

Administration / Human Resources

  • Staff Transitions:  
    • The Executive Director announced retirement and a search was launched.  An Interim Executive Director was appointed to start on 6/16/2024.
    • Two managers left the business creating opportunities for hiring new managers in the departments.  Both were filled with internal candidates who were promoted from their coordinator roles.
    • Student Board of Directors transitioning out in May/June, new Student Board of Directors will be joining.
    • New President will select the Executive Cabinet and present to the board for hiring for the 23/24 Academic Year.

Accounting and Finances 

Associated Students (AS) Accounting and Financial Services provides many amenities to all CSUN students, especially when it comes to clubs and organizations. AS Accounting and Financial Services works with CSUN-recognized clubs and organizations by handling agency (club) accounts and AS-budgeted accounts when an allocation has been approved by the senate.

The AS Children’s Center is a high-quality early childhood development program that provides a safe, nurturing, and inclusive environment. The program promotes each child’s physical, social, emotional, and cognitive development. Daily activities foster each child’s development to their fullest potential.

  • Successfully physically relocated servers in the SQ Data Center within the allocated time frame with no damage or data loss.

AS Outdoor Adventures Image

Outdoor Adventures

Since 2008, CSUN Outdoor Adventures (OA) has been providing unique recreational opportunities to the CSUN community. Through our Wilderness Outings, RIDGE Rockwall, rental center, team building program, workshops and clinics, Outdoor Leadership Program, and most recently Camp Matador, we provide awe-inspiring, transformative experiences to more than 6,000 students each year.

Trip Leaders 

All of our Wilderness Outing Instructors have over 10 days of back country training and an additional focus on technical activities to provide you with the safest, most competent wilderness experience possible. All our staff are an equal mix of trained medical practitioners, cooks, drivers, outdoor educators, and fun facilitators culminating in pretty incredible outdoor professionals.

Wilderness Welcome

Wilderness Welcome offers transfer students a warm entrance into the CSUN community and provides the tools to successfully navigate the transition into Matador life. Students will explore the beautiful outdoors of California and develop lasting relationships while on a fun-filled journey of self-discovery, empowerment, and lasting memories!

Adventure Trips 

CSUN Outdoor Adventures, located in the Student Recreation Center, gives you the opportunity to explore, learn and enjoy outdoor opportunities. Students participating in outings will learn how to recreate safely in the great outdoors and develop an understanding of natural surroundings. Outdoor Adventures hopes this will lead each student to appreciate the Earth’s natural beauty and all it has to offer.

Leadership Workshops 

The Outdoor Leadership Program (OLP) is designed to provide the knowledge and necessary skills for individuals who are interested in working as trip instructors or guides with the CSUN Outdoor Adventures Program.

The goal of the OLP is to develop knowledgeable, highly skilled and trained wilderness guides to work as instructors and guides with the Outdoor Adventures Program. Our overall mission is to provide the CSUN community an avenue to foster an appreciation for the outdoors, while emphasizing safety, environmental awareness, minimum impact, personal exploration, group bonding, experiential education, positive interaction, and good times.

Rental Center 

CSUN Outdoor Adventures has a large selection of outdoor equipment available for current CSUN students to rent at a low cost for a day, a weekend, or a week. Located at the Northwest entrance of the SRC, the Rental Center serves as your comprehensive outdoor resource. Whether it's a family camping trip, church retreat, music festival, or mountaineering expedition, we provide top of the line outdoor equipment rentals for a number of general and technical activities.

Bike Shop

As a bicycle shop , we offer CSUN students, faculty, and staff affordable prices on bicycle repairs, maintenance, and parts. If you would like to learn how to repair or maintain your bike, no labor fee will be added to your total, so you'll just pay for the price of the part (if applicable). If you don't have the time or don't want to get your hands dirty, no problem

Hosted the Western Regional Leadership Conference (WROLC). WROLC is a student led conference where universities from California, Arizona, Nevada, and Oregon come together to network, attend and lead sessions, and have learn new skills. We had Pattie Gonia, ac acclaimed environmentalist and drag queen, as our Keynote Speaker. We had 170 people in attendance.

Productions

AS Productions brings the Matador spirit to life! From concerts to farmers markets, lectures and movie nights, Productions aims to bring quality events to CSUN Students & the community. Productions provides students memorable and iconic opportunities to make the most of their college experience here at CSUN.

  • Sold out Big Comedy (featuring Wild’N Out’s JUSTINA VALENTINE & CONCEITED).
  • Sold over 4100 tickets to Big Show (featuring Steve Aoki).
  • Placed/moved over 2360 safety barricades over the course of the year for Farmers Markets and other events.

Sports Club

The Sport Clubs program provides CSUN students an opportunity to participate in regionally and nationally competitive sports and recreational activities. The program is designed to allow each CSUN student a chance to participate in a sport club individually or as a member of a team.

Points of Pride

  • Boxing won a Belt (1st place) and a Medal at Nationals
  • Women's Volleyball finished 2nd in the Southern California Collegiate Volleyball League
  • Men's Volleyball was ranked 5th Nationally
  • Archery 
  • Table Tennis won the UCI Table Tennis JV Open Teams Event
  • Archery took home numerous medals in their various competitions (a few silver and a few bronze)
  • Cheer got 2nd place at the United Spirit Association Championships
  • Brazilian Jiu Jitsu won the team belt at the Matador Madness Grappling Tournament, and took home numerous medals
  • Wrestling had three members attend nationals
  • Chess finished 4th at the 2024 Pan-American Intercollegiate Team Championship, finished 2nd at the Golden State Invitational
  • Highest tryout turnout in program history (2100+) individuals tried out
  • First time we have ever offered swim or golf in our history
  • First time we have ever offered women's water polo
  • Brought back our monthly recap news reports (The Brief) and our monthly "Did You Know?" Segments

 

AS Sustainability Image

Sustainability

AS Sustainability's main goal is to educate, support, & participate in various sustainability projects on CSUN's campus. Some of AS Sustainability events they host include: Earth Fair, Refill & Repairs, Virtual Trash Talker Series, Thursday Thrift, and other events.

  •  Launched a new event called Thursday Thrift to help bring the reuse thrifting culture to the campus. Hosted this event 3 times over the Spring semester
  • Hosted 6 Refill & Repair events (over the academic year) with over 87 gallons of soaps, shampoos, & conditioners for the campus to take advantage of.
  • Created virtual trash talker video series to spread the word about being Sustainable in your daily life that received over 15,000 views in total.
  • AS Sustainability collaborated with 18 off-campus vendors.
  • AS Sustainability collaborated with 25 CSUN affiliated vendors, including: various AS Departments, the Institute of Sustainability, CSUN Facilities services, Physical Plant Management, Sustainability Club, and more.

Student Leadership

The Student Government division of Associated Students (AS) represents the student body, advocates its needs and defends its interests in dealings with faculty, campus administrators and government officials.

Student Government is comprised of student leaders who seek to provide the ultimate college experience and uphold the mission and vision of AS Student leaders encourage shared governance, student advocacy and collaboration with other campus and community entities.

AS Ticket Office campus events

Ticket Office

The AS Ticket Office offers ticketing services for nearly all campus events, from athletics and comedy to theater, music and more. Discounted tickets to local movie theaters and theme parks are also available.

Ticket Office Highlights

  • Number 1 in Universal Halloween Horror Night online ticket sales for multiple consecutive years
  • 4,101  Big Show ’24 tickets sold
  • 750 Big Lecture Fall ‘23 tickets distributed [ Sold Out}
  • Ticketed Events: Distributed 40,000 tickets to 242 student led events held at CSUN. These events included athletic games, theater performances, music performances, and other student organized events
  • Transportation Subsidy Program: 2,154 total transportation passes were sold where 1,807 were U-Passes and 347 were MTA / AVTA passes.
  • Theme Parks: Our data shows that 10,000 tickets were sold in-person and online.
