Accessibility tools in Canvas are getting an upgrade! Beginning Summer 2025, Cidi Labs will power accessibility within Canvas for faculty and students. The Cidi Labs suite in Canvas for the California State Universities includes two services:

  • Universal Design Online content Inspection Tool ("UDOIT")
  • TidyUp

The Universal Design Online content Inspection Tool or "UDOIT" offers the familiar features from Ally, with a few new features added. Find UDOIT under "Course Accessibility Report" in your course menu.

UDOIT includes:

  1. Course accessibility report
  2. Alternate file formats for students

Plus:

  • Hide unused and/or unpublished files and omit them from your course report
  • Fix Canvas Pages and other Canvas content from within your course report
  • Convert an inaccessible PDF to a Canvas Page in one step

Note that UDOIT does not apply the colored dials. All accessibility information is accessed through the course accessibility report.

Cidi Labs also lets you convert a PDF to a Canvas Page in one step. This won’t solve every PDF, and the Page still needs to be checked for accessibility, but this option may be a good alternative for some intractable files.

In the Review Files area, click Review. Next to "Canvas Page," click Request. Optional: Click the "Replace file with a Page" button to replace all instances of the file in your course with the new page.

TidyUp finds unused files and pages within your Canvas course and helps you easily remove extraneous content.
