Division of Information Technology

Advancing CSUN’s Digital Future

As part of California State University, Northridge (CSUN), the Division of Information Technology (IT) enables our institution’s digital future. We support CSUN’s faculty, students and campus-wide community by delivering technologies and services that empower our community to teach, learn and work effectively with technology.

To maintain alignment with CSUN’s Road Map to the Future, we defined four primary divisional priorities to connect our IT strategies and initiatives with the larger goals of holistic student success, a culture of belonging and a more equitable future for all.

Measuring Our Impact

Our commitment to excellence, equity, and innovation is reflected in these key achievements. These numbers showcase our progress in empowering students and strengthening our community.

Our Priorities

Guided by CSUN's six strategic directions, our division defined IT-specific initiatives through collaborative discussions and careful planning for the future.

Once we identified our divisional priorities, we conducted numerous rounds of revision to gather feedback, refine our goals and recirculate these changes to our internal members, University Technology Governance, college deans, and the president’s cabinet. Through our work, we aim to enhance our technological services, improve the student experience and harness technologies to support teaching and learning.

Expanding Digital Equity, Access and Inclusion

As CSUN’s technological hub, we aim to create direct avenues to quality devices, software and connectivity, which are essential to an impactful education. Through increased digital access, we can provide students with the tools and skills they require to be successful at CSUN and enrich their future career prospects.

Enrich Teaching, Learning and Scholarship

We help faculty integrate technology to enhance learning, partnering with Academic Affairs to modernize learning spaces and evaluate emerging tools like AI. We also support the use of low-cost instructional materials and research computing to enrich teaching and scholarship.

Improving Digital Services and Experiences

We partner with CSUN’s academic and administrative divisions to create effective digital processes and services. We strive to expand the functionality and usage of the CSUN Portal and the mobile application, increase our departmental support and refine our communication and collaborative tech. Improving the efficiency and effectiveness of our IT services and digital experiences enhances the overall student experience and academic success and helps create a more connected campus.

Strengthen IT Capabilities and Capacity

We ensure reliable, secure, and responsive technology by partnering with IT advisory groups to enhance processes, improve analytics and redesign the IT division’s website. Additionally, we support IT staff with clear career paths and professional development opportunities.

The Progress We Have Made

The IT division recognizes the importance of digital access and its pivotal role in enriching the quality of a student’s education and on-campus experience. By proactively creating programs and developing functional infrastructure, we help remove barriers to technology and create a more equitable campus environment where every student can excel. Over the past year, the Division of IT has:

  • Continued to improve the CSUN Device Loaner program to meet the growing demand. With 25,700 devices loaned and 9,700 students served, our program enables students to access technology with greater flexibility and complete their coursework without relying upon on-campus computer labs.
  • Ensured X% of our instructional materials now meet accessibility standards.
  • Established plans for the IT staff DEI advisory committee to form in fall 2024.

One of CSUN’s foremost goals is to help our students excel inside the classroom and beyond. From enriching the educational experience through the integration of cutting-edge technologies to aiding in their professional growth, the IT division has prioritized student success by:

  • Improving our Learning Space Technology, which has provided many benefits to faculty in teaching spaces. With upgraded equipment and the addition of networked microphones and cameras, faculty can now record their lectures and live stream, resulting in a high level of service. These technological improvements have significantly reduced our call volume and shortened response times for resolving classroom tech issues.
  • Guiding CSUN faculty through the integration of AI into their courses and creating digital advising forms.
  • Helping # students post artifacts to their Canvas ePortfolios to showcase their hard work and begin building their professional portfolios.
  • Employing # of CSUN students in the IT division per semester.

By strengthening our divisional operating systems and striving for our human resources to align with CSUN’s core DEI values, we can instigate meaningful change across our campus. To expand our divisional bandwidth and spur new institutional growth, the IT division:

  • Introduced the new CSUN mobile application, which has generated # daily log-ins.
  • Increased our capacity to support CSUN’s technological needs and serve by hiring new staff to fill leadership roles and deploying AI to help manage our technology infrastructure.
  • Supported the long-term success of our IT staff by helping X% of employees define and implement annual professional development plans.
  • Completed # of eProcess+ projects.
