Cohort 2020-2021

I am a Biology major. I choose this degree because I have a passion to join the medical field. I’ve always loved the study of the Human body as well as environmental biology. This major has allowed me to study both while still pursuing my future aspirations. I want to join the healthcare community as either a medical doctor or a researcher. Leadership is important to me because I admire those who lead well. Those who can rally a group, those who can inspire those among them, or bring up those around them to achieve their goals is very inspirational to me. I strive to do the same.

I am senior majoring in Recreation, Tourism, Management while minoring in Africana Studies. I am in Phi Mu Fraternity. I joined Fall 2017 holding the positions of Fraternity Relations, Sisterhood chair, and now Membership Director. What I do in my organization currently is get our chapter prepared within a 6 to 7 month span to recruit our following pledge class while keeping up chapter moral through my entire term, reminding members of our organization why we joined and choose to empower one another. I also work with underserved students at an off campus location.

My name is Claudia Nuñez I am a Chicana/o Studies major. I am the 2020-2021 United Sorority & Fraternity Council President and 2020-2021 Public Relations Chair and Historian for Sigma Alpha Zeta Sorority, Inc. Leadership is important because leaders bring motivation, organization, confidence, recognition and reassurance to the organization they are a part of. In the future I plan to be an Outreach and Retention specialist.

Hello! My name is Jean Julian Tusubira. I am a transfer student from Moorpark college (beautiful campus) and I am currently going into senior year here at CSUN as an Accounting major. My preferred pronouns are she/her/hers. The R.E.D. Leadership Academy is important to me because I love being able to help people and allowing spaces for people to feel welcome and just simply find a place of belonging. I want to continue to grow into a leader that is caring and self-aware and these are important skills for me to nourish in the type of leader I aspire to be. When I transferred from community college, getting involved is what helped me meet all the people I consider dear to me today. It helped me navigate not only university life, but professional life as well, and I continue to make connections with the amazing people I’m surrounded by. Along with the CSUN Mentorship Program, I am also a member in the Accounting Association, Association of Latino Professionals of America (ALPFA) and hold the positions of Vice President and Secretary for the African Students Organization. Besides earning my bachelor’s degree here at CSUN, I would like to be CPA eligible by the time I graduate and begin career in the Accounting Industry. I would also like to be involved and give back to my community through volunteering and community service.

My name is Gift Udeh. I’m a fourth-year majoring in Electrical Engineering. My gender pronouns are she/her/hers. I have been working in CSUN Student Housing for the past 4 years and currently work in the Housing IT department and I’m a peer mentor for the CSUN Mentorship Program. I am also involved in New Student Orientation program as a TAKE XXXII cast member. I am the current president of the African Student Organization and the treasurer of CSUN National Society of Black Engineers. I am a first-generation student, so coming to CSUN was a major adjustment for me. It took a lot of support from the leaders around me to be able to come out of my shell and become proactive and involved on campus. Now I aspire to become the best leader I can be so I can support the people around me. I believe that an effective leader is someone who inspires growth and development in their organizations. I want to be a leader that motivates those around me to succeed in whatever they do.

I am a Recreation, Hospitality, and Tourism Management major with hopes to someday being able to work with a non-profit organization that focuses on helping those in need with housing and homelessness. I am currently the Executive Administrator for the Latino Business Association, Peer Educator with Project D.A.T.E, Leadership, Community Chair Director with Hermanas Unidas de San Francisco State University, member with Alliance for Women in Entertainment, and hope to soon become a Peer Educator with The Blues Project for Spring 2021. Leadership is important because it can influence others to find encouragement to become successful, build a support system, inspire, and give others a sense of direction in life. In a near future, I hope to go back to school to get a second Bachelor's degree to help those with hearing and speech disabilities - as I can relate this - or get my Master's degree so that someday I can help survivors of domestic violence, sexual violence; simply work the public sector in the health field to help others
