The Faculty Liaison Program for Athletics (FLPA) provides CSUN student-athletes with the opportunity to develop working relationships with CSUN faculty members outside of the classroom. These relationships are intended to enhance CSUN student-athletes academic and athletic experience. The program is designed to support student-athletes by increasing communication and strengthening networks among student-athletes, coaches and faculty. By creating a stronger eco-system around the student-athletes, we hope to maximize the potential for each participant  to reach their goals in both academic and athletic pursuits. The Faculty Liaison Program for Athletics (FLPA) will:

  • promote mutual appreciation and increase communication among student-athletes, coaches and faculty
  • expand the support network and resources for student-athletes
  • create a more solid bridge between the academic and athletic worlds of student-athletes

The Faculty Liaison Program for Athletics (FLPA) has multiple roles. However, its main function is to provide additional academic guidance for student-athletes and coaches, educating student-athletes about educational expectations and policies, and providing a link between academic faculty and the CSUN athletic program.

Program objectives include:

Strengthening the relationships between student-athletes, professors, and coaches beyond the classroom

Providing students with faculty support in creating opportunities to meet college service requirements for promotion and reappointment

Assisting in directing student-athletes to access available campus resources, including their college faculty advisor

Connecting faculty & athletic staff and promoting an understanding of their respective challenges, responsibilities and approaches to teaching/ coaching and working with students

Enhancing connections between student-athletes and faculty members by providing additional mentoring for student-athletes, particularly with management of academic responsibilities and communication with professors
