Distinguished Alumni Awards Selection Criteria and Process
Through the Distinguished Alumni Awards recognition program and gala, The University annually recognizes CSUN alumni who have achieved a high level of success in their chosen fields of endeavor, thus bringing distinction to themselves and in turn, to their alma mater. The Distinguished Alumni Awards gala is presented and sponsored on behalf of the university by the CSUN Alumni Association.
NOMINATION PROCESS
Any alumnus, student, university volunteer, faculty, staff or emeriti faculty/staff member may nominate individuals for the award. Nominations may be submitted to the Office of Alumni Relations at any time throughout the year.
INDIVIDUAL CRITERIA FOR AWARDS
- An individual must have attended CSUN or SFVSC and earned a degree or credential.
- The candidate shall have reached the pinnacle of their professional field, and/or have been acknowledged by many as a humanitarian, philanthropist or leader of a cause.
- The candidate shall meet at least one of the following criteria: Be philanthropically supportive of the university; be actively engaged with the university as a volunteer or advocate; be an alum whose accomplishments and reputation would bring distinction to the university.
- The candidate shall exhibit a high degree of character & integrity.
- A candidate agrees to attend and support the gala event.
NOMINATION REVIEW
The Office of Alumni Relations will collect all candidate names and review them for minimum eligibility. Eligible candidates will be compiled and forwarded to the nomination committee.
Typically, three honorees are chosen annually. Candidates not selected in the current year or applications received after the submission deadline will remain active nominations for up to five years for consideration in future years. Candidates may be re-nominated.
HONOREE NOTIFICATION
University Relations and Advancement will contact the selected honorees to secure their acceptance and availability.
The Chief Alumni Officer will regularly review and update the awards criteria to ensure it remains relevant and aligned with the university’s mission, values and goals.
