California Administrator Performance Assessment
What is the CalAPA?
Beginning June 1, 2019, all candidates interested in obtaining the Preliminary Administrative Services Credential (PASC) and serve in an administrative position, must participate in the California Administrator Performance Assessment (CalAPA). The California Commission on Teacher Credentialing (CCTC) has developed the California Administrator Performance Assessment to assess key elements of the California Administrator Performance Expectations (CAPE) and the California Administrator Content Expectations (CACE).
What does the CalAPA assess and require?
The CalAPA consists of three leadership cycles with a focus on organizational development, change management, and leadership. Each cycle includes the four inquiry steps of investigate, plan, act, and reflect. The cycles are as follows:
- Leadership Cycle 1: Analyzing Data to Inform School Improvement and Promote Equity
- Leadership Cycle 2: Facilitating Communities of Practice
- Leadership Cycle 3: Supporting Teacher Growth
Students accepted and enrolled in the Educational Leadership and Policy Studies Program must take and pass all three cycles of the CalAPA prior to completing the program and to be recommended by CSUN for the (PASC).
How am I supported as a student?
The Educational Leadership and Policy Studies Program has been designed to support and assist students in preparing for and being successful in completing the CalAPA leadership cycles. Students will take each CalAPA cycle during specific courses during their program of studies. While the ELPS program will support candidates in preparing them for CalAPA, each student is responsible for creating their own individual account in the online platform and pay for each leadership cycle.
Registration details and more specific information about the CalAPA cycles will be provided to students early on in their program.
What is the cost of taking the CalAPA?
The California Commission on Teacher Credentialing has established the following fee for all three CalAPA leadership cycles payable to the CCTC of $425 for any student officially enrolled in a Preliminary Administrative Services Credential Program.
