The Petersen’s New ‘Best In Low’ Exhibit Celebrates Lowrider Culture
Opening night for Best in Low also drew a celebratory car meet on the roof of the Petersen’s garage, where everything from a Honda Acty to a Dodge Li’l Red Express, even a couple of Harley-Davidson motorcycles pulled up in classic lowrider fashion. At the opening, I spoke with guest curator Dr. Denise Sandoval, a Professor of Chicana and Chicano Studies at California State University, Northridge, who helped to coordinate the cars, bikes, memorabilia and videos that make up the exhibit. -- Forbes Magazine
NMSU's HSI STEM Resource Hub marks five years with final conference
In 2018, New Mexico State University (NMSU) received a research award under the National Science Foundation’s Hispanic Serving Institutions Program. The five-year, $2.6 million grant funded the creation of an HSI STEM Resource Hub at NMSU, in collaboration with Doña Ana Community College and California State University-Northridge. -- New Mexico Sun
Investing in Our Community – Assistance League
Through our partnership with the Santa Clarita Valley Scholarship Foundation, five students were selected to receive Assistance League scholarships. The recipient at Canyon High School will be attending UC Berkeley in the fall and plans to be a writer, while the recipient at Hart High school will attend CSUN and is the first in her family to attend college. Saugus High School’s senior will be attending UC Irvine as a psychology major, and West Ranch High School’s senior will be attending Otis College of Design, majoring in costume design. On May 16, the fourth annual Ready to Succeed (RTS) Graduation Celebration took place at Chief Clubhouse in West Hollywood, praising RTS scholars that graduated from schools like UCLA, UC Berkeley, California State University Northridge (CSUN) and more. RTS, a Santa Monica-based nonprofit, launched in 2016 to meet the needs of those within the nation’s largest foster care system, filling the gaps in professional and personal development. Women Award Scholarships
Haley Oscanoa Yantas - plans to attend CSU Northridge to major in medicine. She chose Northridge to be near her aunt, many hospitals, and interning opportunities. After a visit to Peru with her parents, she became aware of the poor health services in that area. Her goal is to become a traveling nurse to help those in need. -- Dixon Independent Voice
