CSUN Softball team had 17 members honored as NFCA Scholar-Athletes for academic excellence during the 2023-24 school year, setting a program record. Eligibility for the award required a 3.5 cumulative GPA, with the team achieving a 3.59 GPA. Some players received the Scholar-Athlete award for the third time, while others were honored for the second time. -- BVM Sports

NORTHRIDGE, Calif.—CSUN Track & Field’s David Phillips, Jr. was honored with a selection on the 2024 Academic All-District® Team, as announced by the College Sports Communicators (CSC) on June 18. Phillips also advanced to the national Academic All-America® ballot. -- BVM Sports

CSUN Athletics is mourning the passing of former basketball player Mark Cooley, a Matador Hall of Famer, who passed away on May 4th. Cooley, inducted into the CSUN Athletics Hall of Fame in 1985, had an impressive career at San Fernando Valley State College from 1964-67, setting records and earning accolades in basketball. -- BVM Sports

CSUN will have three representatives at the 2024 U.S. Olympic Team Trials in Eugene, Oregon, with events starting Thursday. Junior Chase Mars and senior David Phillips, Jr. will compete in the men's 200m dash while junior Trey Knight participates in the men's hammer throw qualifying round on Friday. The Trials' evening sessions will be on NBC, and all events will stream on Peacock. -- BVM Sports
