Job Title: Zero Waste Specialist

Employer: Go2Zero Strategies

Thesis: Evaluating the Impact of Artificial Intelligence on Waste Auditing and Encouraging Proper Disposal Practices through Nudge Strategies

Job Description:

Angel is a Zero Waste Specialist at Go2Zero Strategies, where she helps businesses and communities adopt more sustainable waste practices. She earned her Master’s degree in Sustainability from California State University, Northridge, where she focused her research on how AI-powered tools and behavioral science can improve waste sorting and reduce contamination in waste streams.

Angel’s work combines her background in environmental science with hands-on experience in waste auditing and community outreach. At Go2Zero, she leads site visits, conducts waste assessments, and supports clients in meeting recycling regulations and zero-waste goals. Her approach is rooted in practical solutions, education, and collaboration.

She also works closely with the City of Los Angeles Sanitation and Environment Department, supporting the implementation of Senate Bill 1383 and City Ordinance 187711. In this role, she conducts inspections of Edible Food Generators and Food Recovery Organizations to ensure compliance with California’s organic waste and food recovery mandates. Her work helps keep food out of landfills, supports local food recovery efforts, and contributes to the state’s broader goals to reduce methane emissions and tackle food insecurity.

Angel credits CSUN with giving her a strong foundation in sustainability and the tools she needed to confidently step into the field. The program not only deepened her understanding of environmental issues but also gave her practical skills and experiences that she uses every day in her work.
