Office of Academic Assessment and Program Review

Our Mission
The mission of the OAAPR at CSUN is to provide quality assessment and program review service to the university, implement institutional-led assessment practices, streamline assessment practices, and increase the use of innovative technology in assessment and program review.

Our Vision
To improve higher education by inspiring and empowering faculty and staff to assess student artifacts through formative assessment practices and to make evidence-based decisions to enhance student learning and development.
Academic assessment and program review are two distinct processes that evaluate academic program quality and continuous improvement and are required to maintain CSUN's accreditation. Both processes are streamlined and led by the faculty to establish an action plan, informed in part by CSUN's assessment and institutional research data, external reviewer reports, and memorandums of understanding.
What is a College Assessment Lead (CAL)?
College Assessment Leads serve as liaisons between the units in their college and the Office of Academic Assessment and Program Review (OAAPR). Under close guidance from OAAPR, College Assessment Leads (CAL) support the mission of the University by coordinating ongoing assessments of the institution. Specifically, CALs provide support to improve program assessment activities, campus-wide participation through planning, training, norming workshops, and resource development, coordinating assessment efforts, and reporting as needed. CALs receive three units of reassigned time per semester in compensation for this work.
