MPH Community Health Education Statement of Purpose Instructions:


The Statement of Purpose is an important part of your application and should demonstrate your motivation to enter a graduate program in the field of Public Health-Community Health Education. This statement will be used to assess your creativity, critical thinking, self-awareness, and writing skills.


Your Statement of Purpose should be no more than three (3) double spaced type-written pages. Use Times New Roman size 12 font, 1” margins, and ensure the statement is double spaced. Be sure to follow these instructions exactly, or your application will not be reviewed.

The writing of the Statement of Purpose must be exclusively by the MPH applicant. Please include your signature on each submitted page of your Statement of Purpose. This signature certifies that the submitted Statement of Purpose is true, accurate and written solely by the MPH applicant; and the applicant understands that any misrepresentation will be cause for denial of admission.

The following points should be included in the Statement of purpose:

  • Give a brief background about yourself, and make sure to include any educational and professional experience as it relates to community health, health education, public health, healthcare, and/or health-related research.
  • Explain your purpose in pursuing an advanced degree in Community Health Education. How did you become interested in the field of Community Health Education? How will you use your training in community health education? What aspects of CSUN and the MPH program appeal to you? What positive aspects do you bring to the program?
  • Discuss your short-term and long-term career goals, that is, what do you expect to be doing in five years and 10 years from now  How will a MPH in Community Health Education help you reach your personal/professional goals and future contributions?
  • Provide any special academic or other considerations that may be helpful to the Admissions Committee in reviewing your application.
