The drop-down options below provide additional help on navigating Tassel.
Graduates will receive a Tassel access link sent to their CSUN email account (@my.csun.edu). Graduates are strongly encouraged to set up their TASSEL account as soon as possible.
To get started, graduates should complete the following steps:
-
CLICK: Click the Tassel link provided in the email
-
PASSWORD: Create a password when prompted
-
ACCESS: After creating a password, graduates will be taken to their TASSEL Graduate Homepage
That’s it. Graduates may log out or continue exploring their account.
Important Note:
If accessing Tassel in early March (which is strongly recommended), the Graduate Homepage will display one pre-populated event tile for GradFest. Additional event tiles, including a graduate’s Commencement ceremony and Honors Convocation, will appear as those events approach.
TASSEL HOMEPAGE EXAMPLE:
EVENTS
After logging into Tassel, graduates will be land on thier Graduate Homepage. This page displays all events and ceremonies assocaited with the graudate's account as an individual tiles or moduels. Each tile outlines the steps required to fully complete that specific event or ceremony. Events appear on a rolling basis, so not all ceremonies and events associated with a graduate will be visible at once.
EXAMPLES OF REQURIED STEPS BY EVENT
For GradFest:
- RSVP to the event
- Guest Tickets / Extra Guest Tickets
For Commencement Ceremonies
- Guest Tickets
- Name Verification Information including:
- Name Spelling (including perferred name if applicable)
- Phonetic spelling
- Name Recording (for professional name readers)
For Honors Convocation:
- RSVP to the event
- Guest Tickets / Extra Guest Tickets '
- Invitation of a CSUN Staff/Faculty Member
As graduates complete event steps, the status will update. A green “Completed” indicator in the upper left corner of an event tile confirms that all required information has been submitted.

GradPass
To retrieve an event-specific GradPass, graduates should select the appropriate event tile and click “View.” Inside the event tile, graduates will see the selected event, their GradPass (sometimes referred to as a "Stage Pass" ), and the number of guest tickets assigned for that event.
Make sure you download your GradPass to your Apple or Google Wallet. This is essential for graduates to access an event or ceremony.
Name Verification
-
Allows students to update their registered name to a preferred name for the Commencement ceremony
-
All submissions are reviewed by Commencement staff and must be appropriate for the occasion
-
Preferred names that are offensive, discriminatory, or derogatory will not be approved
-
Students will preview how their name will appear on the large screens during the ceremony
Note: Name Verification applies to the Commencement ceremony only and does not affect a student’s diploma.
Deadline: April 10, 2026
Name Pronunciation
-
This is part of the name verification process
-
Graduates will record their name for professional name readers
-
Recordings are for reference only and will not be played during the ceremony
-
Students will enter the phonetic spelling of their name and listen to up to three pronunciation options
-
This step is completed while registering for Commencement ceremony or ceremonies
Why This Matters
Completing Name Verification is required to generate a GradPass and enables a personalized Commencement experience. Missing the deadline means no changes can be made to the name linked to the account, and the graduate’s name and major will not appear on the screen during the graduates walk across the stage. Instead, the display will read, “Congratulations, Matador!”
Here are other important details to know prior to celebrating at commencent:
Honors Status
Graduates who have met the honors elegiblity requirements will automatically have their honors designation displayed on their GradPass. This designation may be used when purchasing honors paraphernalia at the CSUN Campus Store. Honors merchandise is available for purchase at CSUN Campus Store registers. Graduates will be asked to present proof of honors status, such as a GradPass, at the time of purchase. The Campus Store will also have a list of eligible honors graduates/candidates available upon inquiry.
Multiple Majors?
Graduates with multiple majors can celebrate thier achievements at more than one Commencement ceremony, depending on how majors are assigned. In these cases:
- Graduate will have multiple Event Tiles/Modules appear on thier Graduate Hompage for Tassel.
-
Graduates must complete all required steps for each ceremony or event they plan to attend
-
Each ceremony will generate a separate GradPass
Guest Tickets for Multiple Majors
-
Graduates attending two different ceremonies will receive a separate ticket allotment for each ceremony
-
Graduates whose multiple majors are recognized within the same ceremony will receive one ticket allotment
Problems with GradPass
Here are common issues with GradPass along with simple troubleshooting solutions.
GradPass won't pop-up or download
- This usually occurs when a pop-up blocker is enabled. Graduates should temporarily disable their pop-up blocker and try again.
- Steps on how to do this can be found here: https://www.csun.edu/commencement/graduates/resources
GradPass is missing or a step was not completed
This may include missing Name Verification or incomplete event steps.
- At GradFest - Graduats will join the standby line and a staff member will assist.
- At Commencement - Graduates will pick up a blank name card at the Graduate Info Tent located on the CSUN Campus Store Lawn.
