Student Grants

The Chinese Government Scholarship (CGS) program is an initiative of the Ministry of Education of the People's Republic of China (MOE), created to strengthen educational exchange and cooperation between China and the global community.


The CGS provides full and partial scholarships to exceptional international students, scholars, and professionals. These scholarships support academic study and research across a wide range of disciplines. With 289 designated Chinese universities and institutions offering a wide variety of academic programs in science, engineering, agriculture, medicine, economics, legal studies, management, education, history, literature, philosophy, and fine arts for scholarship recipients at all levels.

The Chinese Government Scholarship programs encompass a variety of initiatives, including bilateral programs, university independent enrollment programs, the Great Wall Scholarship Program, the China-EU Student Exchange Program, the China-AUN Scholarship Program, the Pacific Islands Forum Program, the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) Program, among others.

The CGS program aims to:

  • Provide access to high-quality higher education in China

Faculty Development Grants

All CSUN faculty members are sincerely invited to apply for 2020 China Institute Faculty Development Grant, which provides the seed money for faculty members to start a project in their discipline that researches on some China-related issues or promotes long-term exchange and collaboration with some Chinese universities. Applicants should explain how this grant may stimulate larger and longer-range projects. There will be two or three grants of $1200 each, which can be used to support travel expenses for faculty’s visit to China to conduct their projects.

Applicants should submit a written proposal of no more than three double-spaced pages. It should cover the nature and purpose of their project, how they intend to carry it out, how it may help CSUN students or our collaborative relationship with Chinese institutions, and how the funds will be spent related to their travel to China. Additionally, a one page resume highlighting relevant experiences must be included. A word file containing the proposal and resume must be submitted to the director of China Institute, Dr. Weimin Sun, via e-mail: , by Feb 15, 2020. A China Institute Grant and Scholarship Review Committee will review all applications carefully and make recommendations. Decisions on awards will be announced by March 15, 2020. Grant recipients are required to provide written reports on their grant activities to the China Institute by June 30, 2021.
